Dear ,
Drive for Independence is an organization dedicated to helping individuals with high level disabilities obtain wheelchair accessible vehicles needed to drive themselves to work and achieve their dreams of independence. We have already helped one individual achieve his dream. Christopher Sauerbaum along with his wife and many other dedicated individuals raised the funds needed for a down payment on his Truck that was recently converted for his specific needs. He is now able to drive himself to work and run everyday errands without relying on a bus or someone else to drive. After meeting his goal they decided to immediately work on paying it forward and help others meet the same goal of being able to drive themselves to work and lead an overall more independent life.
Our annual Upshift Summer Bash car show is one of our largest fundraisers. Upshift Summer Bash 2016 will be held on Saturday, July 30th, 2016 at the AACA Museum in Hershey PA and will showcase a variety of vehicles including cars, trucks and motorcycles with everything from classics to tuners. We are seeking the support of business and private sponsors. There are several possible ways to support this event including Sponsorship, donation to the silent auction and raffle, and door prizes.
We are also accepting donations to the silent auction (donations worth over $50.00) / ticket auction ( items valued under $50.00) to be held during the event. The items will be on display throughout the event for the public to bid on. Each item will include a card with information about the item including the value and who it was donated by. Corporate sponsorship is not necessary to make a donation to the silent auction. All donations are greatly appreciated.

Platinum, Gold and Silver Sponsorship Levels are limited and will go on a first come basis. We encourage all interested sponsors to return the sponsorship form as soon as possible to ensure inclusion of your logo on promotional materials. Logo must be in .JPEG, .PSD, or .EPS format and at least 150dpi (300dpi preferred).
Please e-mail your artwork to: driveforindependence@gmail.com.

We thank you for your consideration in supporting our Upshift Summer Bash 2016 and ultimately our mission with Drive for Independence in helping individuals with high level disabilities reach their goal of being able to drive themselves to work and achieve a new level of independence.
We look forward to seeing you join us at the Upshift Summer Bash 2016 being held at the AACA Museum in Hershey, located at 131 Museum Dr, Hershey, PA 17033 .

DC Abilities Expo Wrap Up

The Abilities Expo was a humbling and eye opening experience. Being there as a consumer is one thing but being there and interacting and talking with public as an organization is a completely different experience. We found out some great information and found other organizations to work with.

After talking with many people, we are definitely on the right track and Drive For Independence is a much needed organization. We are looking forward to more opportunities and want to grow and expand all over the country and we will definitely be pursuing our 501(c)3 status in the new year.

We hope to attend the Abilities Expo in May and would definitely like to attend the DC Expo again. A big thank you to our sponsors Meeting Well and Mobility Works for making our trip possible and being able to share Drive For Independence in a new community!

We look forward to what the new year will bring and the anticipation of future Abilities Expos!

Thank You for a Successful Bazaar

We’d like to to thank everyone who helped make our first annual Drive For Independence Holiday Bazaar a success! It was a great day despite the slow traffic.

We had a gorgeous space, wonderful organic, gluten-free, and vegan food options, and yummy chicken corn soup for starters. We had an awesome group of supportive vendors, many unique handmade goods such as soaps, candles, jewelry, and decor as well as favorite home-based vendors such as Pampered Chef, Tastefully Simple, Perfectly Posh, and LulaRoe.  Santa also stopped by for a visit! We even had visits from ABC27 (ABC27 Story) and CBS21 (Local21 Story). Use the blue links to visit. Thank you to everyone who made the day a success!

Our ticket auction alone raised $70! After all expenses we were able to raise 189.35! Thank you for helping to raise money towards our start-up and program costs as we work towards helping adults with disabilities get the transportation they need for work and fulfilling their goals!

New this year we will have RC2U bringing their mobile RC race set up to the show. There will be tickets available at $3.00 per race, 2 races for $5.00 or wristbands for $10.00 to race all night. We also have several Gold (trophy) and Silver Sponsors helping to make this year’s event a success.  Ida Automotive and Preston Tucker LLC are 2 of our gold sponsors this year. They are currently in the process of building what was the Tucker Torpedo concept car. Sean and Mike Tucker (Preston Tucker’s great grandsons) and Rob Ida who specializes in custom car builds will be on hand. Our other gold sponsors are Ride- Away, Mobility SVM, who will hold the first owners group meeting in conjunction with our event, and Aadvantage Insurance. It’s Time to Help Others Reach their Dreams

We are ready to begin the planning stages of bringing Drive for Independence to life! We’ve reached our goal and will be getting Chris’s truck soon. We are now ready to begin Drive for Independence. Our mission is to help those with physical disabilities get the accessible transportation they need to reach their life goals.

We will be focused on people with the highest level of disabilities and have needs for a higher cost vehicle to be converted. Depending on the situation and needs we may be able to help others with getting low-level hand controls. We will be helping by providing grants to people. In most instances the maximum grant possible will be $10,000.00. We will also be following rules for Pennsylvania OVR in regards to insuring vehicles. If you are using Pennsylvania OVR for your conversion there are rules and regulations you must follow and we will have very similar guidelines. You will not be eligible for another grant from us for at least 10 years and all other funding options must me exhausted before we can consider giving a grant.  There are many, many people who need vehicles but we want to be sure the vehicle will be taken care of appropriately and that the person can financially sustain the high price of the converted vehicle. We will be there to direct people on the best options for them and help them navigate funding sources. We want to give people the best opportunity to succeed in life!

We are currently working to form a board we need a secretary, several board members and a fundraising committee to be successful with Drive for independence. If you are interested our first meeting will be held Thursday February 26th at 6:30pm at Panera Bread in East York. Please follow the link to the Facebook link and let us know if you will be attending: https://www.facebook.com/events/804259203006295. If you don’t have Facebook and would like to attend please email us at driveforindependence@gmail.com.

We look forward to serving our community with Drive For Independence!

It’s Official! Chris’s Drive For Independence Has Reached its Goal!

IMG_0569

Thank you to everyone who made our very first car show a success! We may not have reached our goal but we are less than $1,000.00 away from our goal! We are still proceeding forward with getting Chris’s truck. It will still be a couple months until we are given the go ahead to get the truck by OVR so there is still an opportunity to get there.

Thank you to the food trucks and vendors who gave their support in our first year. You took a gamble on us! We can’t say thank you enough for being there to support us! Thank you to the vendors who came out to share the day with us. Thank you to all the car guys, including some of the Visual Reality Car Club, and three special Johns (John O., John Sheldon, and John Burch) that came out to support! Chris This event was about bringing the community out to help one of its own reach his dream!

The Upshift Summer Bash raised $1,209.00 leaving us just $800.00 shy of our goal. We thought we were proceeding forward without reaching it. That all changed this morning at 9:30am! I was expecting email from Ride-Away who was part of our event. Imagine my (Heather’s) surprise when I looked in my email and there was a donation the completed our goal and exceeded it! I just about hit the floor I was so shocked! Chris was sleeping and I woke him up with my hysterics! At least it was a great reason, right?

Thank you again to everyone who has helped us reach our goal! It was so much a community effort! It now puts us very close to Chris’s Dream of Driving. OVR paperwork is in the works and hopefully as long as all goes to plan we will have his truck in 4-6 months! Sooner is better than later but after a 10 year wait this will be nothing! What a way to celebrate Chris and I being together for 10 years! What an awesome gift and one we will never forget!!!
